Description:
The purpose of this Problem Assignment is for you to identify the rights of employees by
preparing provisions for an employee handbook.
Instructions:
1. Once again, assume you have decided to set up your own business
2. You plan to have several employees
3. Prepare provisions for an employee handbook
4. Your provisions should not infringe on employee rights, as described in this week’s
readings
5. You are free to require anything you feel is appropriate
6. Your employee handbook should contain the following components:
a. A title that includes your company’s name and reflects the business you are
conducting, e.g., “Employee Handbook for Grandma Mollie’s Homebaked
Cookies, Inc.”
b. A provision that specifies the duties for a particular job title within your company
c. You want the scope of duties to be specific to avoid possible vicarious liability
should employees intentionally act outside their scope of duties
d. A provision that addresses a safety issue within your company that is g overned
by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards
e. One or more employee privacy provisions, such as use of computers, telephones,
etc.; drug testing; dress codes; dating other employees; or monitoring of
employee performance by employers
f. A provision that addresses your sexual harassment reporting policy
